10 Happy Things

Sunday 15 May 2016

Breakfast in bed with the Sacconejolys
My mornings are never complete without this YouTube family, and it's even better at the weekend because I get to be comfy in bed while I watch their latest daily vlog. I made porridge (like always) and just relaxed for a little bit. It's always total bliss!

Out early for a run
We actually had quite a busy day ahead, so we had no choice but to go out for our run at 9am. I was dreading it a little bit, but now I think I prefer being out at that time! The sun hasn't quite made the day warm yet, so you get a nice crisp morning temperature. And it was quieter than usual. I think we might go out that early all the time now.

Brunch at the best cafe on earth
Another reason we left early was to make sure we had enough time to get something to eat at our favorite place, Pure Cafe Co. Everything they make is based around clean eating and special diets (GF, DF, Paleo etc.) so it's beautiful food that's good for you! I always get the Avocado smash with a poached egg and vegetable hash-brown. So so good! I look forward to it all week.

New hair!
I cannot tell you how excited I was to finally get my hair done again. I knew I wanted a trim, but then I looked at some pictures on Pinterest of short hair and got really hooked on the idea. I always go back and forth with how long I want my hair, and now I'm really happy to be back at this length. It's something fun and new for me to play around with. What do you guys think?

Started reading Heir of Fire
Since I had two hours to kill at the hair salon, I used it to start digging into the third book in the Throne of Glass series. I forgot how amazing these books are and I'm already hooked on the story again. This book has been sitting on my shelf for a couple months now while I've been stuck in a reading-rut (the worst!) but I think it's already helped me get back into my reading. It's 500 pages long, but I have a feeling that I will get through it quickly.

Re-watching Chuck
After I came home from work on Saturday night, I had my usual "What do I feel like watching?" dilemma. I didn't feel like anything new or action-packed, so I settled for Chuck which is one of my favorite TV series ever. It was nice to relax with something familiar, plus I can't resist a bit of Zachary Levi.

Half-Marathon training session
Yup, there's only a few weeks to go until the marathon and as per usual, me and my Mum leave our training to the last minute (oops!)  We ended up just doing 11km and still felt really good, so next week we are going to run an extra park and bring it up to 15km. I know we will be fine on the actual day since we have done it before, but I'm just happy that I've never felt better about my running and I'm really looking forward to the challenge.

Smoothie Bar
So the awesome cafe I mentioned above have opened their own smoothie place called Gre3n Superfood Juice Bar, and it's incredible! It was our first time checking it out and there were so many different smoothies to choose from. They even do smoothie bowls, and serve some of the amazing treats from the cafe as well. I think it's going to become our Sunday post-run tradition now!

Trying new recipes: Almond butter cups You guys know that I love being creative in the kitchen, and seeing as I was making my meal prep anyway, I decided to make some treats as well. I found a recipe from the shop that I buy my whey powder from and it was super-easy to make. I think I need to do a bit of tinkering of my own to get them how I want (they're quite sweet!) so now I'm inspired to get creative.

Mum's homemade bread
Is there anything better on a Sunday than home-cooking? That's always been what it's like in our household and it makes me so happy. Lately my Mum has been trying her hand at bread-making and so far the results have been amazing. Tonight she made some using spelt flour and it was so good. We left it in the oven for a touch too long, but I like my crust crunchy anyway. Yum!

So that was 10 happy things from my weekend! It's always good to start your week on a positive note and reflect on some goods things. I think getting my hair cut was the highlight for me!

What happy things happened over your weekend?

  2. When I started to have my short hair, I always look forward every month to get a trim or try another short hairstyle. It was also a way for me to release the stress knowing that I will be pretty after the haircut but now, I'm planning to grow it long so that my mom can braid it again and I can try different hairstyles using hair clips and hair accessories. The short hair looks good on you. Only few women are brave enough to cut their hair short. I know some of my friends who are even afraid to have a trim. Hahaha. :)

Have a lovely week, Steph! :)

  3. I love these kinds of posts! :) Breakfast in bed was definitely one of my happy things this weekend too - there's nothing better than being able to actually enjoy my bowl of porridge instead of having limited time to eat it like it's the case during the week. Also I finished reading two books which made me so happy because I'm finally getting into reading daily again. These almond butter cups look amazing & I love your new hairstyle. Really want to cut mine shorter again too x
