10 Healthy Habits I Need In My Routine

Tuesday 15 March 2016

Checking my emails
Is anyone else terrible for just letting their inbox fill up? The other day mine got to about 500 and I knew it was time for an intervention. As a blogger, you never know what's going to turn up in you emails and there could be a great opportunity waiting for you. I need to get into the habit of checking my inbox Every. Single. Day instead of just once a week...

Washing my makeup brushes regularly
Don't worry, I do actually wash them. I just have a terrible habit of not setting a day to do them and then forgetting about it completely. There's nothing quite like going to do your makeup with fresh brushes, so I need to make this more of a priority.

Morning Hydration
I've been working really hard lately on making sure that I drink enough water throughout the day. I think since I always have my morning coffee, I don't usually bother with another drink. But that needs to change! I always find myself so thirsty when I get to the gym at 10am and then I drink too much water whilst working out. Time to start drinking water once I've finished my breakfast.

Read a book before bed
This is something I've been trying to do almost every night now and I never regret doing it. I basically set a time that I have to be in bed by and just chill for half an hour (maybe longer if it's a good book) doing a bit of reading. It's bliss! I've gotten through some of my books a lot quicker too. Definitely need to keep this up. It also goes great with a cup of tea!

Allow more time for chores
I think we have probably all opted out of doing something in favor of staying on Twitter, right? We all do it, and those daily tasks just keep piling up. I always go mad at myself for not making time when I know I can. Even just setting aside an extra twenty minutes will help me stop being late for everything.

Reflecting on my day
This is one of my favorite things to do before bed and it makes me feel excited for the next day. It's great for helping your focus on the positives of your day and appreciate the little things that made it a good day. I've started a little journal project to help me with this habit and it's really lovely looking back on what made me happy.

Backing up my photos
I have so many photos constantly being taken and uploaded because of the nature of this job. I freaking love creating content, but we all know that computers can spontaneously die on us and I don't want to risk losing my work. Every week I'm gonna get out my external hard-drive and backup everything just to be safe. A lot of them may be pictures of my dogs, but still.

Write my daily/weekly goals
I swear nothing helps your productivity like a clear motive faced with a deadline. I'm quite a self-motivating person, but lately I've found that I'm kind of just going from day to day just working at whatever pace I can. It's time to step it up and set goals for myself every night so that I have something clear to work towards each day.

Just lay in bed and listen to music
I used to do this all the time and it's such a relaxing way to chill out before you head off to sleep. There are usually so many times in the day where I just want to switch off with some music, so maybe on the nights where I don't feel like reading I can get my headphones out and just relax for a bit.

Do just one thing at a time
My mind is constantly working in hyper-drive and makes me have a bit of scatter brain. Whenever I'm working on my laptop I'm constantly jumping between tabs. I really need to learn to slow down and just focus on one task then move on to the next. I would probably get a lot more blog posts written this way!

And there we go! Seems pretty achievable to add these to my daily routine. No more excuse, time to be productive!

Are there any habits you need in your routine?

  5. You are awesome!! I was smiling so much reading this post as I kid you not I think I said pretty much all of these things to myself yesterday! :) I'm exactly the same with water, I always drink my coffee and then realize at lunch time I haven't had any water yet, now I always keep my bottle filled up and drink it throughout the day, as well as having hot water and lemon a little after my coffee. Today I have spent the whole day writing as I had realized I was just taking my time working on it when I could, but I thought no Lucy, it's time to step it up and make time! :) Definitely feel writing down routines and goals makes it easier to stick too and you feel even more accomplished when you can tick them off! :) Sorry for the long ramble, but LOVED this post!! :) xx

  8. I really want to start setting aside 20 minutes in the evening to do chores before bed so that I don't want up to a messy house! I think it's going to have to be something I try and work on during April
