How Having A Personal Trainer Changed My Fitness Journey!

Wednesday, 13 July 2016

I'm just going to say it: I would not be where I am today without my trainer. I wouldn't be this close to having the body I want, or even enjoy the gym like I do now. He introduced me to my love of lifting and helped me feel stronger than ever. I did all the hard work, but he showed me how to get most out of my workouts. I honestly believe that PTs are the best for anyone starting out at a gym. And speaking for personal experience, they are the best investment you can make for your fitness and well-being.

Help You Build Confidence Using Equipment

This was a big factor for me when I was just starting at the gym. I wanted to know how I could have fun with the jungle gym in the corner, and the only way to do that (safely) was to ask a personal trainer for help. They can show you the correct form to use, which ensures that you're targeting the right muscle group. No one wants to feel like the gym-idiot who has no idea how to use anything. That's where your PT can help you feel confident using any of the machines/equipment. You'll be walking into the gym feeling confident in no time!

You Don't Want To Disappoint Them

Doing your trainer proud is such a great feeling. The smile you get on the fourth day you've come into the gym is always worth getting up early for. Sometimes you need all the motivation you can get to go workout, so having a trainer there that you don't want to disappoint is just another reason for you to get moving. And remember, they're more likely to take you seriously and help put in the hard work if they see you trying your best.

Best Exercises For Your Target Areas

We all have them, right? And the only way to make them look awesome is to find the right moves that will get you all toned up. There are quite a few that I use now for under my arms and also what's going to build up my glutes so I look great in jeans. You have to be able to isolate the area and get it burning. Just ask your trainer to show you the right moves and the correct for to go with it.

They Push You To Your Limits

There are a lot of times where I never would have pushed myself without my trainer telling me to keep going. One thing I have learned about fitness is that your body is capable of more than you think. If you don't push it, you'll never reach your goals. A personal trainer will never let you give up and that's the motivation you need! Where you would have stopped at 10 reps, they make you do 20. Sometimes you just need that voice over your shoulder saying "COME ON, KEEP GOING!"

Of course I have to thank my trainer Josh for helping me achieve what I have. Even though you're a giant smart-ass, you're still one of the most awesome people I have ever met (along with the whole gym team at Mint!) My gym has a blog full of great recipes and workout tips if you wanna take a look.

What do you think of personal trainers?

  1. I have to agree with everything you said Steph. Though my trainer, my awesome brother, is 4000 miles away, I still love making him proud. I'm able to send him videos and pictures and he always keeps me motivated, in addition to checking my form and making sure i'm progressing and doing everything right. I do feel it's important to make sure your personal trainer is right for you by doing your research, chatting with them and seeing if they are actually really listening to what you are saying and are making sure to treat you as an individual. That's one thing i'm grateful of my brother for, not just being biased :p but you look at his record and he treats each client differently and respects what they wish to achieve, he really cares and isn't just about "gym life" and "getting shredded" or anything like that! Sorry for the ramble, got carried away chatting about personal trainers, you got me thinking!:p Thought that might be a helpful tip! Another awesome post! :) xxx

    1. That's so awesome that your brother is your trainer! It's great know there's someone you can trust to talk to, right? I totally agree, they have to treat each client differently. Mine knows how motivated I am and when to give me new challenges. Your brother sounds awesome! And like the perfect PT. I love discussing fitness with you! :)

  2. This is exactly why I want a personal trainer. I want someone to motivate me and push me, someone to tell me exactly what to do to reach my goals... By the end of the year, I'm going to take the step to get one so reading this had just made me want it even more!

    1. You're gonna love having a trainer! Even for someone like me who is quite motivated, having someone to push you further than you think you can go is amazing. Definitely take the time to find the perfect person that you get along with and will train you hard :)
