2018 Movies I Can't Bloody Wait For!

Thursday, 7 December 2017

It's almost a new year and you know what that means...new movies!
You all know I'm a massive nerd and I love getting excited over fictional characters . 2017 has been pretty great for movies: Spiderman, Thor Ragnarok, Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, Dunkirk, Beauty and the Beast, Hidden Figures (a must see!) just to name a few. December is usually the time I sit down and chat to you guys about what movies have me running to the cinema. I'm not ashamed to love mainstream movies, so here's all the ones I can't wait for!

Maze Runner: The Death Cure
If you didn't know, I'm a HUGE fan of this series. I've seen the first two movies many many times now, and read the books too. Production got delayed a few times on this one, so we have had to wait even longer. But I'm so excited for this finale and I have the feeling it's going to be epic. The third book is actually my favorite of the three and even though they never stick to the story entirely, I'm excited to see how they play out certain scenes.

The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1
HELL YEAH BABY! You all knew this one was coming, right? I have to admit I was one of those people that has been anxiously waiting for the trailer to drop (and maybe surfed the net when it was leaked...) But this one looks seriously cool! All of the cool characters they have introduced over the last couple years will all be on screen together. I'm personally looking forward to seeing how Groot and the other Guardians of the Galaxy will fit in with the gang. Kinda happy that Cap has a beard now too.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
I know the first installment wasn't super-popular, but I actually loved it! I mean there's Chris Pratt, cute baby dinosaurs, and they even got me to have positive feelings for raptors (that absolutely terrified me as a child!) There's a new trailer coming out tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled.

Pacific Rim Uprising
I actually only just watched the first film a few weeks ago, and it was the trailer for the new film that made me watch it. It was one of those movies I had always planned to watch but never got around to it. I really liked it! I'm into my sci-fi actions films and it's a really cool concept. This next one should make for a fun date night.

DeadPool 2
This is gonna be good! Even my Mum enjoyed the first film. I am so keen for more savage jokes and Ryan Reynold's breaking the fourth wall of Marvel cinema. There's even a kiwi in this one!

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald
Oh yes. There's nothing quite like sitting down and seeing the Warner Brother's logo over dark clouds. You know magic is about to happen! The first installment was just perfect and I definitely need more of these characters (and the adorable creatures Newt carries in his case.) And you know what else I need? A trailer! Pretty please :)

What films are you gonna be running to in the New Year?

Happy Blogmas Day 7!

My Favorite Movies Of 2016!

Tuesday, 20 December 2016

Let me just say that I am a shameless lover of blockbuster movies. Slap a Marvel logo over the intro and I'll pay $20 to see it. Any kind of action/adventure with explosions or a cute romance film will make my Saturday night worth leaving the house for. I know this year has been pretty hard on the world, but in terms of film-making, we have been given some pretty amazing distractions. More books have been made into movies and these superheroes are on a whole new level. It's an exciting time for a nerd like me!

Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds really outdid himself on this one. I always knew that Deadpool was a hilarious and kick-ass character in the superhero world, but seeing him on the big screen just cemented him as one of my all-time favorites. Some of the gritty stuff isn't my thing, but the humor really made up for it. All I need now is for him to team up with the Avengers so I can watch him cause all kinds of trouble.

Suicide Squad

I know this one got mixed reviews, but I bloody loved it! It was nice to watch some bad guys forming a team to kick ass and not worrying about doing the right thing. With all of the superhero films around at the moment, it was a nice break from all of the serious stuff DC produces. I was so excited to see Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and she totally nailed it. Even though Will Smith was bad-ass as ever, I think my favorite character was Captain Boomerang. He makes me giggle so much in this movie.

Miss Perigrine's Home For Peculiar Children

I went along with my family to see this, mainly for their benefit. I wasn't overly excited about the movie, but I left the theater absolutely loving it! So many lovable characters, a bit of adventure and some magic on the side. It had that typical Tim Burton feel and a few creepy moments that I wasn't expecting, but in good way that it added to the experience. I've bought the book and am planning on buying the DVD once it's been released.

Captain America: Civil War

An obvious one, but how could I not love this film! It's like the Avengers but better because it we get a new Spiderman, Bucky Barnes, and a villain smart enough to take down the whole team. I liked that Cap was more of the rebel in this one and Tony was behaving himself, it made for an interesting change. It was so good to see Ant Man in the mix as well. If you couldn't already tell, I would be on Steve's side too.

Doctor Strange

God bless Marvel for bringing Benedict Cumberbatch into the MCU. And also for bringing that multiple dimension/magic element more into the superhero world. It's one of the reasons I love the Thor movies. I also enjoyed how their powers are all about the strength of your mind, rather than your body. Just goes to show that if you study hard, you'll be rewarded. Can we please talk about his awesome cape?

Star Trek: Beyond

Fun fact for you: Even though I wasn't in the right generation to watch the original TV series, I really like the recent films! The chemistry between the characters is always so natural, and it has a good balance of humor and emotional moments. I liked that this new installment took them away from the depths of space and into a whole new environment. Plus, Chris Pine looks pretty good on that motorbike and blue jacket...

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them

I waited all year for this to be released and I was not disappointed! As soon as I saw the Warner Brothers logo in the clouds, I felt like I was straight back in the Wizarding World. I don't know what I love more: Newt Scamander and his new friends or the amazing creatures he has in his case. I totally saw the Grindewald reveal coming, but there were lots of other surprises that I loved. J. K Rowling really did the most amazing job of the screenplay, and I'm so happy she's back to writing about magic again! I'm also happy that everyone loves Hufflepuffs now, we are pretty cool after all!

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

I'm not gonna lie, the first time I sat down to watch this I was a little frustrated with the first half of the film. But after seeing it a second time, I realized how brilliantly it shows the realistic side to the rebels and what they had to sacrifice. This movie is such a great addition to the film franchise and I can't wait for more stories to be released.

My Top 10 Feel-Good Movies!

Thursday, 1 December 2016

Hello, Everyone!
I'm kicking off the start of December (and blogmas) talking about some of my favorite characters and movies! I'm talking about the ones you watch on a Friday night after a long day at work, that you know will just lift your spirits.

As much as I love my superhero films, and maybe a little bit of Star Wars, there are some movies that I don't have to think much about and have a cute romance to follow. I can just put it on and have a giggle, nothing serious. You know, the feel good kind!

Cinderella

Even though it's live-action and one of the newest Disney films, Cinderella is probably my favorite film to watch. We all know the story and have seen the stunning blue dress that's made from butterflies and magic. The transition from animation to live was perfect me, from the mice to the pumpkin carriage. I'm not usually a "princess" kind of girl, but this movie makes me want to go a ball in a puffy dress and dance around until midnight.

Meet the Robinsons

This has to be one of the most under-rated Disney movies ever made. I never grow tired of watching it and I actually enjoy it more than some of the classics. It's a movie all about family and finding somewhere you belong. The main character Lewis is an orphan and an inventor, that meets another boy from the future and his hilarious household. There's so many quirky characters that make you laugh, and the message that come across is so heart-warming. I cry at the end Every. Single. Time.

About Time

I've always loved the concept of this one. The male members of Tim's family can travel through time and change certain events. He, of course, uses it to get his dream girl, but things don't always go smoothly. This isn't your average rom-com though, there's a big emphasis on family and doing the right thing. It's one of the sweetest movies that gives me feels every time.

Bride Wars

I can't tell you how many times I have watched this chick-flick. It's just one of those films that you can switch off to and have a laugh. I find a lot of my own qualities in Kate Hudson's character Liv; she's stubborn, a little bossy, and loves food! I really enjoy the wedding planning element of this movie, plus it stars a young Chris Pratt. This one is at the top of my go-to Friday night list.

 Mary Poppins

I don't really need to explain this one, do I? The catchy tunes, Julie Andrews, the animation come to life. It's a classic and it cheers me up every single time. I really wish I had a friend like Bert to dance around with!

50 First Dates

There are so many sweet things I can say about this movie. I absolutely adore Drew Barrymore and her character is so lovely and quirky, yet she doesn't let anyone boss her around. I think every girl likes to know that she's worth all the chasing and I love that Adam Sandler's character doesn't give up. Plus, they filmed it in Hawaii! My favorite place on earth. It has everything a feel-good movie needs.

Legally Blonde

I recently watched this one again and remembered how inspiring Elle Woods is. Not only is she kind to everyone, but she also gets right back up when everyone pushes her down. She always reminds me that no one can tell you that you're not good enough. I can't think of a more uplifting movie if I ever need one.

This Means War

I haven't sat down and watched this one in a while, but I would in a heart-beat! What's better than a Tom Hardy movie? Having Chris Pine (and those big blue eyes of his) in the same film. They're basically both trying to win over the same girl (Reese Witherspoon) while making adorable messes of themselves. Did I mention they're both spies as well? No wonder she has trouble choosing one of them. It's funny with a bit of action and not one, but two leading men; you can't go wrong.

Hairspary

Oh the music, the dresses, the adorably young Zac Efron! There's so much fun and heart in this movie that you can't help but tap your feet along to it. I think what I like most about it is that the morals behind it e.g don't judge a book by it's cover and good will always triumph evil. Tracy doesn't let negative people get to her and she won't judge you for a single quirk. This movie is just really uplifting and perfect for when you're not having the best day.

The Parent Trap

Nothing like a bit of nostalgia! I don't know how many times I watched this as a kid, but I've always loved it. I could never decide which sister had it better: riding horses on a ranch in California or being cozy in England. Either way, I wanted to be them! I also love all the pranks the girls pull on each other at camp and them discovering that they actually are sisters. Peanut butter and Oreos are still the best idea ever.

Those are my top 10 feel-good movies! I'd love to know what some of your favorites are down in the comments :)

My Top 5 Superheroes

Tuesday, 17 May 2016

Who's ready to rave about some heroes?
If you hadn't guess already, I can be a bit of a tom-boy when it comes to my movie choices. My favorite films don't usually include chick-flicks (although I do enjoy them) but growing up with an older brother meant that we always needed some butt-kicking action to entertain us. Naturally, superheroes have been a big part of my life and it's something I could talk about for hours on end.

This is possibly that hardest list I have ever had to make. I feel like so many great heroes have emerged lately (well done Marvel & DC.) But these are definitely my current top five:

Deadpool
I know he's not really a hero, but when I think of the Marvel Universe he's just my number one guy. Everything in the superhero world can get very serious and there's lots of dark/broody characters trying to save everyone. And then Wade comes along to give us all some much needed comic relief that we didn't realize we needed. He never takes anything too seriously, but then he turns into this total bad-ass assassin that you wouldn't dare to mess with. He's like Wolverine, but with non-stop sassy remarks.

Spider-Man
Another wise-cracking hero I can't get enough of (no wonder him and Deadpool are BFFs.) I always liked how intelligent Peter Parker is, and how that human side of him makes him even more of a hero. He's not tough like Captain America, but being so agile makes him more of a rarity in the superhero world. He's like the nerdy/hipster little brother to the Avengers, but just as awesome as the rest of them. I LOVED him in the latest Captain America film, Tom Holland was so good and he broke up some of the tense scenes really well.

Quicksilver
I must have a thing for heroes who run fast because the Flash is also one of my all-time favorites (he almost made the list.) I love how cheeky he is, at least in the film adaptations I've seen. I think Age of Ultron proved that there's more to his powers than just speed. Plus, how good was the Quicksilver/Hawkeye rivalry in the movie? So funny, and I think we can agree that the X-Men version of him is just as awesome.

Superman
I know he's your classic hero, but Clark Kent was a big part of my childhood, since he was my brother's favorite and all. He's also like the King of superheroes being the most iconic. I think I've just always admired his morals and how he's the hero you could always rely on. I know he can be a little predictable, but there's no way you would want to mess with him. Can we talk about how perfect Henry Cavill is at playing him? Swoon!

Wonder-Woman
She has beauty as well as brains; what more do we need in a heroine? The older I get, the more I find inspiration in women like her who are tough as any male superheroes and yet she still handles herself with grace. I also love that she comes from Greek mythology and is somewhat of an outsider to the world, which always makes things interesting. She's kind of the female equivalent to Superman, but more badass and with better accessories. She is exactly the woman I aspire to be.

So those are my top 5! It was pretty hard trying to narrow them down. I might do a top 5 Super-Villains, since there are so many good ones!

Who are your favorite heroes?

My Favorite Movies of 2015

Saturday, 19 December 2015

Hello Everyone!
I feel like we got pretty spoiled for blockbuster movies this year. I love going to the cinema and it's been great having something new to look forward to each month. Here are the movies released this year that I loved most:

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials
You have no idea how excited I was when this was finally released. They did changed quite a few scenes that were in the book, but I found that they made sense for a film adaptation. With the action scenes they managed keep the intensity of the book and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Bring on The Death Cure!

Cinderella
Oh, I do love a good Disney movie. I think the idea of live-action Disney is really cool and they pulled this one off really well. I loved that they explained more of the story of Cinderella, especially her evil step-mother and why she was so cruel to her. Can we please talk about her dress?

Avengers: Age of Ultron
There was no way I was leaving this one off my list. I thought this film was even cooler than the first and the action was on another level. In terms of villains, Ultron is pretty up there and James Spader was incredible.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2
Anyone else not ready for this series to end? It was a pretty epic conclusion and they kept in a lot of my favorite moments from the book. It was all worth the heartbreaking moments. Josh Hutcherson was absolutely amazing at playing a broken Peeta. He's definitely going to get an Oscar one day, for sure.

Jurassic World
I know this one got mixed reviews, but I actually really enjoyed it! Yes, there were times when things got a bit over-the-top, but in terms of being entertaining and having a good cast, it did pretty good. And they get props for making me actually like Raptors.

The Martian
This wasn't my usual Saturday night movie, but I thought it was fantastic. It was the perfect balance of space, thrill, humor and Matt Damon-awesomeness. It's one of those movies that makes you forget where you are and you end up getting quite attached to the main character. I may have shed a tear or two...

Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
If you didn't know, I'm a bit of a Star Wars geek. I was so excited to see this and it did not disappoint! The film didn't stray too far from the originals, yet every new addition made sense and the whole film flowed really well. A big thank-you goes to my brother for pre-booking us all tickets before they all sold out months prior to the movie's actual release.

Ant Man
Marvel did such a good job with this one. I get really annoyed when people hear the title of this film and go "Really? Ant Man? Lame." Only because this movie and its main characters are actually pretty awesome and the humor makes it such a fun watch. I can't wait to see Paul Rudd among the Avengers.

It's a very Blockbuster list, I know, but these are the kinds of movies I grew up with and I love 'em!
Do you have a favorite movie from 2015?
