Seven Things From Harry Potter I Wish Were Real

Thursday, 6 April 2017

Don't you just love a post talking about all things Harry Potter? They have to be one of my all-time favorite posts to read! I've been itching to write one for a while, but needed the write topic. I thought this would be a great sequel to my Eight Things From Disney I Wish Were Real post I did last month. Although it was a lot harder to pick my favorites this time!

I've left out the obvious ones such as Hogwarts, chocolate frogs, and the lovely Luna Lovegood. There's very little about the universe I wouldn't want to bring to life, but if I had to pick a magical seven, here's what I would choose:

The Feasts

I must be a true Hufflepuff because this was one of my favorite parts of the movies/books: seeing all the food. I would have to do so much running if I was a student that sat in front of cakes and towers of ice-cream every night. And since our common room is next to kitchens I can sneak in at night for left-overs!

Dumbledore's Army

I don't know about you, but when I was in high school there was nothing more thrilling than rebelling from a teacher. And who better to annoy that the horrible Professor Umbridge? The DA is a big part of the reason why Order of the Phoenix is probably my favorite of the films. They made learning spells and secret meetings look so fun!

Diagon Alley

When I first watched Harry Potter as ten year old, I think the first scene that made me fall in love with it was when Harry and Hagrid walk into Diagon Alley for the first time There was something so magical and exciting about it that I immediately wanted to explore it. I think I would end up spending all of my money in the Florish and Blotts book store!

The Weasley's

Probably my favorite fictional family of all time. Starting with Mrs Weasley, the best cook and bad-ass witch, Mr Weasley and his innocent curiosity about all things Muggle-related, Charlie basically being an epic dragon-tamer, Ron bringing all the laughs to tough times (and making Hermione smile), Bill fighting for the good side even after becoming a werewolf, Ginny for being tougher than the boys, and of course the twins making sure everyone was always laughing. Even Percy redeemed himself in the end!

Quidditch

I was never one for sports at my school, but if we could actually fly around on broomsticks and throw balls at each other mid-air I would have participated a lot more! I'm not talking about the muggle-version people play nowadays, I wanna be soaring through the air to avoid bludgers (although I fear my lack of co-ordination would get me hurt a lot.) It would still be an exciting sport to watch!

Apparating

Do you know how much time this would save? Being able to travel straight to anywhere you have been before would be one of the coolest parts of being a witch or wizard. Just think, if you go to Disneyland once, you can go back any time you like. I'd pop there for a churro, hit the Indiana Jones ride, then watch the fireworks show from any spot I want. Endless possibilities for this one!

Fantastic Beasts

They have always been one of my favorite elements to the HP universe, and the latest movie only makes me want them to be real even more! If I were a witch, I would probably have wanted to end up studying and taking care of creatures like Newt does. Life would never be boring and you can educate people on how to protect them.

Now it's your turn! Tell me what things you wish were real from Harry Potter in the comments.

The Geeky Girl Tag!

Sunday, 5 March 2017

Hello, Everyone!
The lovely Tania Michele and I quite often geek-out about the same things (she has very good taste) and she was kind enough to tag me in a post all about my geeky side! This is a topic I absolutely love diving into and it's a very big part of who I am. I've always been a little nerdy and my friends will tell you I can get pretty excited about this stuff. Thanks for including me Tania!

Here we go:

1. What is your must-have tech gadget?

Apart from my DSLR camera, can I say my BB-8 Bop It Toy? I'm not overly techy, but I love this thing. It's so fun and makes the cutest sounds!

                                               2. Which house do you belong to in Hogwarts?

Hufflepuff! I was placed on Pottermore and after being introduced to Newt Scamander, I am so proud to be in my house. We have good hearts, and our common room is right next to the kitchens at Hogwarts. We are good friends to have :)

3. Who is your favorite Doctor?

I think because he was my main experience with Doctor Who, I'm going to have to say Matt Smith. It was fun seeing an older character in a young man's body. I thought he played the character really well and the companions during his seasons were my favorite too.

4. If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?

I've always found this question tough. I think it's a tie between Rey from Star Wars, so we can ditch dinner and go on adventures across the galaxy to fight the First Order. Maybe even turn me into a Jedi. Or Newt Scamander from Fantastic Beasts. I love for him to tell me about all of his favorite creatures and take me into his magical case so I can hug them all. I might try and adopt one of Picket's friends for a companion of my own.

5. What is your gaming system of choice?

To be honest, I haven't spent much money on games lately, but I do love having something portable like my PSP. I've also always wanted a GameBoy to have on hand when I travel or I'm just bored at home.

6. If you had a super power, what would it be?

I have always wanted to be able to move objects with my mind. Not because I'm lazy, but just for the fun of it. I could levitate myself and fly instead of having to drive everywhere. I could totally use it to save people and become a super hero, as long as I can become an Avenger.

7. What is your favorite fantasy world?

Harry Potter of course! The dream to go to Hogwarts, own a wand, and eat chocolate frogs began when I was ten years old and it's still alive and well today. When I visited the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in LA, it was like getting a glimpse into what it would be like to explore Hogwarts and it's a world I wanna live in!

8. If you could be any fictional race, what would you be?

Sticking with the Harry Potter theme, I would love to be a witch. Casting spells would just be so much fun and I get to spend my teen years at Hogwarts. What could be better?

9. Star Trek or Star Wars?

Star Wars! I definitely grew up watching the movies more than Star Trek. And I just love the universe. The heroes, the droids, and the epic theme music. It's the best. I do enjoy Star Trek as well, especially the recent reboot movies.

10. List your top 5 geektastic movies or TV Series.

Harry Potter
Star Wars
The Avengers
Sherlock
The Big Bang Theory

11. List your top 5 favorite video games.

Star Wars Battlefront
Lego Harry Potter
Mario Kart

I have to say a big thank you to Tania for tagging me in this awesome tag. Make sure you go and check out her answers because I absolutely loved reading them. I had a lot of fun thinking of my own and it's making me want to talk about my geeky side more often.

Here are the questions if you would like to copy them and take part in the tag:

1. What is your must-have tech gadget?
                                             2. Which house do you belong to in Hogwarts?
3. Who is your favorite Doctor?
4. If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?
5. What is your gaming system of choice?
6. If you had a super power, what would it be?
7. What is your favorite fantasy world?
8. If you could be any fictional race, what would you be?
9. Star Trek or Star Wars?
10. List your top 5 geektastic movies or TV Series.
11. List your top 5 favorite video games.

I would love it if Over The Moony and Prompts By Dee
would take part in the tag! Both of your answers would be fun to read :)

Let me know what your favorite fandoms are in the comments!

Fandom Q & A with The Blossom Twins!

Saturday, 10 December 2016

Welcome to a new blog series!

If you've been following me for a while, you'll know that I have a real geeky-side and am part of many fandoms (Marvel, HP, Chuck, Supernatural, Maze Runner etc.) I love writing posts that are fandom-related, just as much as I love reading them. There's always so much passion and love behind them that I can relate to. I have been lucky enough to meet some amazing bloggers who share my love of certain fictional worlds and the characters who make us happy. I quite often find myself fangirling with awesome people on Twitter (you know who you are, and I love you.)

Lucy and Kelly from Sweet Is Always In Style Blog have become two of the most amazing friends over this past year. We learned very quickly that we belonged to the same fandoms and our tastes are so similar that if they love something, I know I will too. So of course when I thought of a nerdy Q&A, these girls had to be part of the first installment. They often write about their fandom loves, so I thought it would be fun to ask them a few geeky questions.
Make sure you check out their blog and also their Instagram accounts (Lucy/Kelly) because they often post about their fandom loves!

  1. If you could perform one spell from the Harry Potter universe, which would you choose?

Lucy: I’d say a Patronus! I would love the idea that I can conjure something to protect me and my family in time of need. I think that would be awesome!
Kelly: Okay so Luc’s answer was pretty cool, I was a going to go with Accio, so I could have anything come to me when I need it. Not in a lazy way, more so because if I forget something, then I could summon it, that would be good.

  1. If you could pick any 4 superheroes (Marvel and/or DC) for a dinner party, who would you invite?

Lucy: Ok, so I can’t really lie here, you know I’m picking these based on the movies and the people who have bought these awesome characters to life. So with that being said, Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and Ant Man, you are all welcome to come for dinner any day of the week!
Kelly: Haha I agree with Luc! Chris Evans, I mean Captain America, my door is always open to you! I would also invite Bucky Barnes, Thor and Iron Man.

  1. Which Disney princess would be your ideal BFF?

Lucy: I adore Rapunzel, she has to be my all-time favourite. I love her energy, sense of wonder, the fact that she dreams big and is always so bright, sweet and positive. I will say though that Belle would be an awesome Best Friend too because we could just talk books all the time!
Kelly: Belle and Rapunzel for me too. They are my absolute favourites. I would spend hours being creative with Rapunzel and plaiting her hair, then she could make mine pretty with all kinds of colourful flowers. As for Belle, we would just spend hours in the library.

4. Which Fantastic Beast from the Harry Potter universe do you want as a sidekick?

Lucy: We haven’t seen this movie yet, so I’m not really sure on my answer here. I have read the little Fantastic Beasts text book but that was a very long time ago and I can’t really remember any of the beasts. Do the animals in the actual Harry Potter books count for this? As Fawlks would make a pretty cook side kick!
Kelly: I think having Buckbeak around would be lots of fun. No more planes for me!! We could travel anywhere we wanted and explore!

  1. Would you prefer to go on a spy mission with Chuck, or be Doctor Who’s companion for a day?

Lucy: CHUCK, CHUCK, CHUCK!!! Always and forever Chuck!!! Going on a spy mission with Team Bartowski would be the coolest thing in the world, you know granted it’s not too scary and no one dies and all that, but to be a part of Team Bartowski kicking ass and saving the world, isn’t that just the dream?

Kelly: Best Question ever!! Chuck all the way! I mean come on, how could you not want to be on Team Bartowski, even if it’s just for one mission?? It’s the best team in the world. Chuck, Morgan, Casey, Sarah and Me…dream team for sure! Sign me up!

   6. In the world of X-Men, what would be your ultimate super-power?

Lucy: It’s been a while since I delved into the world of X-Men, so forgive me. But I think my ultimate Superpower would be the ability to fly, as then I can just come and go as I please and get to places quicker and not have to go on a plane. But also, I would love the ability to heal people if they are hurt or sick.
Kelly: Hmm, I’m trying to think of all of them now! I think being as fast as quicksilver would be quite useful on occasion. But my ultimate super power would be to fly.

7. Pick your dream squad: Dumbledore's Army, The Avengers, Team Free Will, or Justice League?

Lucy: Ooh that’s a tricky one, it would be a tie between Dumbledore’s Army and The Avengers, with maybe The Avenger’s slightly more in the lead as they are just so kick ass. I am going to have to add here that again Team Bartowski would be the ultimate squad.
Kelly: Lucy, stick to the question…although touche with Team Bartowski! I’m going to go with Dumbledore’s Army because as much as being on a team with Captain America would be, well, you know, amazing, I’m a potterhead through and through.  Then I would be on a team with my won won!

8. If you were Cath from Fangirl, which series (TV/movies) would you love to write stories about?

Lucy: I’ve never read Fangirl so I’m not sure if this answer will be correct, but we have written many blog posts about Chuck, as it is simply our favourite show ever and there’s so much to discuss and just talking about it makes us happy. The same can be said for Harry Potter. We do also love Gilmore Girls and superheroes of course and they are always fun to write about too.

Kelly: I don’t think I would be much good at writing fan fiction. I always love the worlds the authors or movie makers create so much, that I don’t think I would be able to do it justice or that I would want to then make up what the characters do next etc. Not that there is anything wrong with that! I do love to write about the things I love though and why I love them.

9. Can you remember the first fandoms you were a part of growing up?

Lucy: I’d say Harry Potter was the first fandom we were a part of. We were obsessed with Harry Potter growing up and still adore everything about it. Though at the time we never knew the word ‘Fandom’ or felt we were part of a big culture of Potterheads. We didn’t even know such things existed. As we got older though and learnt more about Comic Cons and the terms ‘Nerdy,’ I’d say Chuck would be the true official Fandom that we became a part of, and trust me, we jumped in with our whole hearts. We love talking with other members of the Nerd Herd, we’ve created Chuck DIY, crafts, cakes, cookies. We have Chuck clothing, CD’S, posters, you name it. We are definitely most Nerdy about Chuck.
Kelly: Lucy pretty much covered that question but I would also add that we were very big into Pokemon. I don’t know if that counts in this but I would think it has a pretty big fandom now.
     10. Every fandom needs a theme song, which one would you choose for your own adventures?
Lucy: I feel it would need to be something by the one and only JEFFSTER, because there’s nothing quite like a bit of JEFFSTER to motivate you and make you feel like you can take on the world.
Kelly: In the spirit of being nerdy about things I am going to go off course and say that where music is involved if The Overtones are singing, I will be ready for anything. They can sing their own songs or they can pick a theme from something and sing that, it doesn’t really matter, I just love them!

11. Which Hogwarts house are you in and why does it suit you?

Lucy: I’d love to be in Gryffindor because I very much like to go on adventures like Harry, Ron and Hermione always find themselves on. Furthermore, I’d like to think that I can be brave. I like to challenge myself and push myself and feel that I am doing a much better job and facing my fears these days. So I think Gryffindor would suit me. I also like that they are smart and feel that being friends and being in the same house as Hermione would be awesome. Learning is cool and I think she is brilliant, strong, smart and a wonderful role model.

Kelly: I always go for Gryffindor because that’s where I was sorted when we went to the Warner Bros tour in Los Angeles for the first time. I’d like to think it suits me. I can be brave like Harry and love reading like Hermione and as for Ron, I have to be where he is!

12. If you had to choose, which fandom (TV/movie/book) has your heart the most?

Lucy: Have I talked about Chuck enough yet? :p I will say that I love the magic of Harry Potter and it holds such a special place in my heart and always will, but I think I’d have to go with Chuck. Everything that show represents just makes me happy. From who Chuck is as person, always wanting to do good, to make things right and never change or compromise his beliefs or who he is, even when the world isn’t always a nice place, I just feel was done so well and I love him. In addition to the people he had around him, the family and the friends, the show just has everything and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything about it.

Kelly: I apologize because I know you said choose one but I'd have to say Harry Potter and Chuck! I love them both and over the years my love for them has only grown stronger. The first note of the Harry Potter soundtrack gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it and whenever I'm in a shop and 'Africa'comes on, it may as well be Jeffster singing it for the smile it brings to my face. I have met so many awesome Potterheads and members of the Nerd Herd, which only makes me love them more. They are two of my absolute favorite things in the world!

Thanks so much to both Lucy and Kelly for taking part in my Q&A! I absolutely loved reading your answers. I really wish we lived closer so that we could have Chuck marathons together.
I will be asking more bloggers to take part in my series, so stay tuned!

Let me know some of your answers in the comments!
